June 2024

The Cellar Shot

  • Iliana Malihin Old Vines Vidiano 2021, Rethymno, Crete - The last of it as the vineyards burned down in 2022. A pure, spring-water-like aroma with the concentration and intensity of nothing but minerals in the form of phenolics. An intense and long lingering finish of saline-like minerality and supporting acidity.
  • Thibaud Boudignon Chenin Blanc 2022, Anjou, France - From one of the most exciting winemakers in the Loire. Biodynamically grown on shallow soils of grey schist and rhyolite (volcanic soil) and produced with native ferments and no malo. Displays soft fruit balanced with an intensely salty character that’s perfectly suited for the summer months.

The Californian

  • Sandlands Cinsault 2022, Lodi - The personal project of Turley winemaker, Tegan Passalacqua. From the old vines of the renowned Bechthold vineyard (planted in 1886) this presents a rich, layered and sumptuous Cinsault. Notes of violets, pomegranate and lavender.
  • Jolie-Laide Melon de Bourgogne 2023, Chalone - Hails from an 1800 ft elevation site (planted in 1985) on south facing decomposed granite and limestone. Fresh nose of sea breeze, green apple, Asian pear and lemon zest with mouthwatering acidity and oyster shell minerality on the palate.
  • Two Shepherds Skin Ferment Trousseau Gris 2022, Russian River Valley - This is an easy drinker reminiscent of a slightly salty rosé with layered nuanced complexity. White peach aromatics and flavor.

The Trust Fall

  • Thibaud Boudignon Cabernet Franc Rosé 2023, Loire, France - Fresh, bright, and insanely drinkable! The wine shows flavors of red fruit, flower petals, white pepper, and wet rocks. A true ‘food rosé’ to pair with charcuterie boards, raw bar favorites, or lobster rolls.
  • Two Shepherds Vermentino 2022, Lodi - From Boidy vineyard, this is a fresh and gulpable white. Mouthwater acidity with weight and texture. Hints of yellow apple, honeysuckle, and peach.
  • Uccelliera ‘Rapace’ Tuscan 2019, Tuscany, Italy - A sangiovese blend (some merlot and cabernet sauvignon sprinkled in) from the Tuscany region. Intense and complex with notes of spices, blackberry, blueberry and jam. Powerful and supple at the same time with evident but soft tannins.

The Pop & Pour

  • Bastide du Claux Barraban 2020, Luberon, France - A seven varietal blend primarily of Vermentino and Grenache Blanc. A fun food friendly summer white.
  • Lectores Vini ‘Classic’ Priorat 2019, Priorat, Spain - An elegant blend of Garnacha, Cariñena and Syrah. It packs in all the black fruit, spice and structure of classic Priorat with none of the heaviness. Very expressive and dangerously quaffable.
  • Mas de Valeriole Vé Caladoc Rosé, Provence, France - Caladoc aka hybrid of Grenache and Malbed. This is bright, salt-tinged with flavors of raspberry and ripe citrus fruits, with a sneakily long finish.
